soared to 94 degrees. but the setting sun brought relief tonight and a line of severe storms, will now make for a dramatic change. wednesday night the the big story on "action news" tonight is the storms starting to fire up in parts of the delaware valley, lets check out double scan radar and meteorologist cecily tynan. >> jim, these storms are all associated with a cold front that will bring an end to this heat and storm tracker six live double scan showing main band of storms from state college to pittsburgh more than 700 lightening strikes associated with this. this is moving east at 40 miles per hour but we're beginning to see renegade pop up cells ahead of the main line that is one cell, that is over chester town, maryland and thinks moving to the east and this will be cross nothing to delaware, within the next 30 minutes. but that main line will be moving through, after midnight, areas to the west there is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for lancaster counties and areas to the west. those watches likely will be expanding eastward as that

line gets closer. so late night thunderstorm between midnight and 5:00 in the morning. these will be coming with damaging wind gusts more than 58 miles an hour. thunder and lightening. you will hear it early in the morning. also heavy downpours as this line continues to push to the east. now what this will do is shift the winds. yesterday, and today we have a strong wind out of the southwest, bringing us the the hottest weather of the year, yesterday, 93. today we bumped it up to 94 degrees. that is 10 degrees above normal. the heat was even higher in atlantic city a record high 95 degrees. we will talk about the timing of the storms on the way, more on the way tomorrow, and a breath of fresh air behind the system coming up in the full forecast, jim. >> thanks, cecily. of course, "action news" morning team will be tracking those overnight storms. tune in for latest accu weather forecast beginning at 4:30, tomorrow morning here on "action news". now to a manhunt by philadelphia police, law men continue their search for

three suspects in the wake of the kidnapping and burglary in the the bustleton section of philadelphia kidnaped teen is back, the money is not. "action news" reporter dann cuellar has more. >> reporter: police have vague descriptions of the gunman but they are working on surveillance footage from neighborhood cameras. after kidnapping the 15 year-old, they forced him to call his parents who own several businesses and told them to give up all of the money or they may never see him again. >> he came in, they have guns, he put us down. they asked us for money. >> reporter: the home owner described his family's ordeal at hand of gun wielding bandits who invaded their home just before 2:00 in the afternoon. only moments earlier they received a call from their son who told them he had been kidnaped less than a block away from home on this quiet bustleton street. >> they had my son kidnaped and then my son called us from the guy's phone and said give us. give them everything. money, jewelry, whatever you got. they asked him what we have

inside. my son was scar. he told them everything we have. they took everything. >> reporter: this child witnessed kidnapping by two men police say were wearing purple latex gloves. they push the child in the silver suv, being driven by a man wearing a ski mask. >> he picked them up and push him in the car and, the little boy, is a teenager and he tried to get out and wow not let him out. >> reporter: bandits tied him and his wife up before ransacking the house they made off with thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry and other valuables. then they sped off with their son still in the get away car. he managed to untie himself tried to chase after him. >> i grabbed my keys and i left. i followed him. i chased those guys. i almost caught up to them but they got away from me. >> reporter: bandits later dropped their son unarmed in the 2300 block where he ran to the gas station and called police. before the bandits left the home they took dvr from the video surveillance system. police believe the bandits were professionals who knew exactly what they were doing. >> just the simple fact have of him standing out in

95-degree weather with latex gloves on is an indication they were prepared and they knew what they were here to do. >> police believe they were target because they own a number of businesses and known to keep large sums of money in the house. he believes they got away with $30,000 in cash, jewelry and other valuables but he is just glad to have his son back. police describe the the three gunman as three black males dressed in white tank tops and dark pants in the silver subaru, possibly, an out back. in the bustleton section, dann cuellar for channel six "action news". a to second one year-old man is in critical condition after being shot six times in the overbrook section of philadelphia. the the shooting happened at 8:30. in the 900 block of edgemore road. police are still searching for the gun man who opened fire on the man in a driveway, police have no motive for the shooting. in kensington in philadelphia, a burglar has not only caused a church congregation a valuable brass electric tern but he has broken the congregation's heart. bishops. a lot of the goodwill and work performed here at the church is done by volunteers, and including these men who are boarding up the broken down door. leaders tell me they would have gladly helped the people who stole from them. >> it makes me sad because someone needed money and they could have just come to us. >> reporter: despite the major loss members went forward with their community dinner and evening prayers but they moved it outside to the courtyard. meanwhile east detectives are investigating and searching for fingerprints, the church would like their symbol have of face back where it belongs but says it is praying for burglars and focusing on the big picture. >> it is just stuff and we have each other in this congregation and we have the kids here that we work with and for that we are so grateful. >> reporter: in kensington, sharrie williams, channel six "action news". robert kerns, the former head of the montgomery county g.o.p., is free, on bail tonight. today a judge threw out the rape and sex assault charges

against kerns, the 66 year-old was accused of assaulting a feast mail paralegal last october. kerns still faces other charges including aggravated assault and indecent assault. today a judge ordered johann briar of northeast philadelphia, held without bail. the 89 year-old stands accused of being nazi war criminal. briar, an admitted ss guard, was arrested tuesday on a german warrant. german investigators say he took part in murders at the concentration camps in 1944. briar says he only work outside the camp and never killed anybody. an extradition hearing was scheduled for august 21st. president barack obama is laying his options on how to respond to the violence and chaos in iraq. obama met with the senior leadership of both parties, in congress and all agreed he doesn't need further legislative authorization for some steps that he might take.

obama is considering whether to order limited air strikes either by drone or manned aircraft against insurgency targets. meanwhile in iraq the violence spread to the oil field is today where the refinery were set a blaze. ceo of general motors was back on capitol hill today facing skepticism about lawmakers. it was mary barra's second appearance before the, congressional committee investigating faulty ignition switches. lawmakers expressed disbelief that gm's explanation for why it took 11 years to recall millions of affected vehicles. the defect is blamed for more than a dozen deaths. gm has recalled nearly 18 million cars in the u.s. this year including 3.2 million just this week. budding musicians showcased their talents tonight at the the kimmel center for the performing arts. >> ♪ >> students in the creative music program for jazz performed their end of the season concert, 15 students

as the sun went down tonight the battle against mosquitoes got underway in cherry hill. the camden county mosquito commission, sprayed several neighborhoods between seven and 11:00 o'clock. commission is reminding residents that insect repellants are effective when mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk. huge swarm of bees took their toll today on the valley forge interchange, of the pennsylvania turnpike but officials managed the situation as best as possible. happy to have so many friend. we've got some stormy weather coming our way, here's cecily tynan with accu weather. >> we have a battle between dry air moving from the northwest and that heat and humidity here. that is creating the storms. storm tracker six live double scan is showing that most of our area is rain free, the the actual main line of storms, is near state college. however, if you look out over maryland is there a complex really two batches of thunderstorms pushing east and will be moving into delaware. first one that moves through chester town and this has wind gusts up to 40 miles april hour. moving east at the 30 miles an hour. heartly, kenton and dover we are in the path of the storm. lightening with these two complexions close to 400 strikes in the past 15 minutes and then it is followed by another very intense cell, moving out of baltimore into the chesapeake bay and this also will be moving over delaware and this again, is ahead of that main line of storms moving through, after midnight. temperatures right now, these

are really the highs for this time of the year. philadelphia 84 degrees. the current temperature is normal high. we made it up to 49 today. millville at 78. wilmington 82. trenton 78. atlantic city airport 80 degrees down from the record high of 95 degrees. sat the light six with action radar showing this is the main line that i am's track ago this will be sweeping through overnight. we are seeing the severe thunderstorm watch boxes, being issued ahead of the line, lancaster is under a watch and i think as this system continues to push to the east as these storms pull together we will see some watches, being put into effect in the overnight hours. so future tracker showing around 1:30 tomorrow morning is when we will see the showers and thunderstorms. don't be surprised if you hear thunder, it may wake you up. it gets more widespread by 2:30 in the morning, 4:30, when "action news" is on storm tracker six live will be working overtime and we will have more thunderstorms and then things break up a little bit around 9:00 o'clock.
